Benne Seed Oil
After his first taste of this smooth, golden oil, Thomas Jefferson wrote "I did not believe there existed so perfect a substitute for olive oil. He said it was "among the most valuable acquisitions our country has ever made."
Few plants excited Jefferson's as much as benne (the ancestor to today's sesame seed) which was first introduced in America by African-American slaves. This heart-healthy oil is rich in monounsaturated fats and full of flavor and was Jefferson's favorite salad oil.

Today you'll find benne on the menu in several of Charleston's downtown restaurants and in the Lowcountry's favorite cookie. 8oz
