Why is the South Carolina Certified Seal associated with your products?
We have completed the arduous inspection processed required to receive this certification through the SC Department of Agriculture for flavoring oils and vinegars. While there are many shops in South Carolina that sell olive oil and balsamic vinegar, we are the only South Carolina company that is actually creating (and certified to create) herb and fruit infused olive oils. Other Carolina olive oil companies are merely repackage oils and balsamic vinegars from large distributors in California. Everything we sell at farmers markets is hand- blended in Charleston.
Why is your company called "Lowcountry" Olive Oil?
Lowcountry refers to the coastal region of South Carolina and Georgia. We offer olive oils and vinegars unique to Charleston's Low Country region, including Lowcountry Herb and Lowcountry Blend olive oils (both family recipes) and our Benne Oil, and Market Street Praline balsamic vinegar. We also sell extra virgin olive oil grown in Georgia, the only East Coast State currently growing olives for olive oil.
Do you sell Olinda Olive Oil and Holy Smoke Smoked Olive Oil?
Yes, we are proud to support other local families and small businesses. We sell 375 ml bottles of California grown Olinda Olive Oil owned by The Decamilla Family of Charleston. You are welcome to bring one of their large 500ml bottles in for refilling in our store. We also sell Holy Smoke Smoked Olive Oil, cold smoked over Carolina Hickory and Pecan wood by Max Blackman and Kyle Payne of John's Island.

How should I store my products?
Olive Oil Storage
When olive oil is exposed to oxygen, light, and heat, it is subject to oxidation and may become rancid. Proper storage can prevent this. As soon as you open the bottle, the oxidation process accelerates and the oil will degrade fairly rapidly. Make sure you keep your oil in a closed bottle, in a dark container or pantry, away from sources of heat like your stove. Refrigeration will not hurt the oil, however if refrigerated you may notice that the oil will begin to thicken and gel. We recommend you consume our olive oils within 12 months of purchase.
Balsamic vinegar storage
Balsamic vinegars' enemies are light and heat, so cool, dark storage spaces (like a pantry) are best. While storing them in the refrigerator will not permanently damage them, it will cause them to become extremely thick, making them difficult to use in the short-term. We recommend you consume traditional uninfused balsamic within three years of purchase. To insure maximum freshness of our balsamics infused with natural flavors, we recommend use within one year of purchase.
What is balsamic vinegar?
Our artisan quality Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Italy is made using a 100 year old family recipe. The process begins with careful selection of Lambrusco and Trebbiano grapes, grown in the Modena region. These grapes are pressed and the resulting juice called "must" is heated in copper cauldrons until the volume is reduced through evaporation by about 40%. The liquid is then decanted into wooden barrels (chestnut, oak, juniper and cherry) and left to age and transform into vinegar. As the time goes by, part of the liquid evaporates and part of the liquid is absorbed into the wood. The liquid is transferred into smaller barrels while the new "must" is added to "top off" the bigger barrel. And so continues the process.
Where do you source your olive oil?
In compliance with FDA regulations, this information is listed on the back of each bottle. Each of our oils are tested by an independent laboratory to ensure they meet the extra virgin standards established by the California Olive Oil Council. The oil for the majority of our flavor infused olive oils come from Argentina. We also offer (uninfused) extra virgin olive oils from individual, family-owned farms in California, Italy, Greece and Chile. The base for our balsamics is the 25-Star traditional balsamic from Modena, Italy.
